Description


Position summary: This position is designed to provide circulating and/or scrub nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists surgical team as needed in any other capacity, according to established procedures



· Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot and monitor EKG rhythms with telemetry, bedside monitors, and central station EKG monitoring equipment.

· Demonstrates competency in identifying abnormal cardiac rhythms, initiating ACLS protocol when necessary, and notifying physician(s) appropriately.

· Demonstrates competency for airway and ventilatory assistance and management.

· Demonstrates understanding and competency in femoral artery hemostasis monitoring, such as the competency to discontinue femoral artery sheath(s)

· Demonstrates understanding, and proper use of antiarrhythmic, thrombolytic, anti-thrombotic, and vasoactive infusions.

· Completion of Femoral Artery Hemostasis Module.

· Demonstrates competency in assisting with the insertion and maintenance of pulmonary artery catheters, central venous catheters, temporary pacemakers, and arterial lines. Such as the competency when discontinuing PA, central line, temporary pacemaker and arterial line catheters.

· Demonstrates understanding and competency of advanced concepts of hemodynamic monitoring with appropriate maintenance and titration of vasoactive drugs.

· Demonstrates competency in caring for open-heart surgery patients during surgical procedure. May function as secondary RN during immediate open-heart procedure.

· Demonstrates ability to bottom circulate independently.

· Demonstrates understanding and competency in the care of the patient with an Intra-aortic Balloon Pump. Demonstrates ability to set up the Balloon Pump.

· Functions in charge nurse role when requested.

· Maintains constant communication with ICU open-heart recovery staff.

· Assists pump tech with care of equipment, as needed.

· Takes open-heart call as assigned.

· Completes intra-aortic balloon pump seminar.

· Completes SVO2 monitoring seminar.

· Completes charge nurse training.

· Completes 12-Lead EKG Seminar.

Qualifications

Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:
· Indiana RN License
· Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and RN must be maintained throughout employment with Terre Haute Regional Hospital
· Circulating Nurse with Scrub experience
