Job Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide leadership, set strategic direction and give technical guidance and expertise to the cost accounting department. This department supports plant cost management efforts by providing cost analysis, ensures compliance with all cost accounting policies and procedures, and implements corporate initiatives at the Muscatine plant.

Scope/Specific Responsibilities of the Position:

· Manages the Muscatine Plant Budget of~ $500M, leads the plant through LRP costing/ budget processes, and manages the cost accounting department annual budget
· Optimizes people performance and development through mentoring, coaching, training, recognition, creation of progression plans, appraisals/reviews, discipline, documentation, follow up, and providing developmental opportunities
· Facilitates communication by interfacing between plant leadership and personnel
· Sets strategic direction and priorities for the cost accounting department
· Monitors accurate forecasting, costing of products and inventories, monthly financial closing, and reporting of manufacturing variances.
· Drives continuous improvement initiatives, identifies key cost leverages, and assigns resources to minimize costs.
· Communicates key area information to the Plant Services Business Unit Leader
· Allocates resources to support plan-wide initiatives
· Promotes regular cost evaluations to ensure compliance with corporate controller policies
· Verifies outside contracts are supported and yield maximum benefit

Qualifications

Education

A Bachelors degree in Finance/Accounting is required. A CPA/MBA is preferred.


Experience


Five to seven years general accounting experience is required.


Seven years general accounting experience (including three years cost accounting) is preferred, also one to three years leadership experience and three years in manufacturing environment

Skills/Competencies


This position requires proficiency in SAP or a similar system and Microsoft Office Programs. The candidate must possess very strong analytical and budgeting and forecasting skills. The position also requires strong skills in oral/written communication, time, task, and project management, priority setting, decision making, resource allocation, and people leadership including coaching, influencing, conflict resolution, team/individual goal setting, and effective performance management.


Specific Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

This position is located in an office in the administration building of a chemical manufacturing facility. This position requires the ability to use a computer/keyboard for extended periods of time and the ability to work a full eight hour day within the flexible schedule of 6:00am to 5:30 pm. Limited travel and after-hours support of critical needs is expected.
