Description
Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team in developing high yielding, competitive soybean varieties. The Research Assistant will assist in all phases of a comprehensive breeding program aimed at germplasm development and the introgression of new traits into elite cultivars.
Responsibilities include:

Manage all aspects of soybean breeding nursery program including set-up, seed counting, planting, note-taking, field pollination, harvesting, threshing, seed sampling, and data entry.
*
Utilization of research equipment such as planters, combines, and handheld computers for note- taking.
*
Data management and proficiency in database computer programs.
*
Perform safety inspections for vehicles and work areas, actively participate in safety meetings, and assist with station safety program.
*
Supervision and training of temporary employees.
* Participate with team to successfully maintain the ISO Quality Management Standards.
*
Working with regulated material, including documentation, planting, data collection, and harvest.
*
Travel for training and other meetings is likely during the year.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience:
*
BS in Agronomy or related field or equivalent experience.
*
Proficient working with Microsoft Office programs.
*
Committed to maintaining a safe work environment.
*
Emphasis on quality work and attention to detail.
*
Ability to initiate and supervise daily tasks as well as demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks.
*
Familiar with breeding methodologies, experimental field plot design, and soybean production practices.
*
Individual leadership with excellent written and oral communication skills.
*
Ability to work well with others in supervisory and service capacities.
*
Possess or capable of obtaining a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license.
*
Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License if necessary.
Preferred Experience:
* 3 years agriculture related experience.
