Description

Monsanto is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated, Canola/Sorghum Marker Coordination Lead to join our growing team. Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate molecular workflow of established projects, ensuring all regulatory, quarantine, and
QA/QC protocols are followed.
2. Coordinate and lead new project creation, marker discovery and development of specific
protocols to ensure FTO.
3. Coordinate and establish record keeping and documentation protocols for patent requirements.
4. In conjunction with Quantitative genetics and Biometrical lead, develop protocols and tools to
provide breeding with timely and accurate information for progeny and product selection.
5. Interaction with other breeding technology teams within Monsanto to ensure leveraging of expertise
and sharing of best practices.
6. A robust and comprehensive process flow is needed to ensure that all interfaces with different
projects in canola and sorghum are established and maintained
7. Knowledge of molecular genetic advances pertaining to increased functional efficiency of different
breeding programs is important.
8. Annual objectives are determined based on different program needs and team decisions.
9. LRP and budget for molecular breeding tool (MBT) will be prepare in coordination with canola and
sorghum breeding leads
10. Coordinate and prepare molecular lab workload reports and budget.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

1. PhD in Plant Breeding or Plant Genetics
2. Solid knowledge of Molecular genetics with strong interest in applied plant breeding.
3. Understanding of different breeding methodologies and processes in diverse crops
4. Solid knowledge of genetic mapping and analysis software (Mapmaker, Mapmanager, QTL
Cartographer, MultiQTL and NTSYS)
5. Excellent knowledge of Excel, Excel macros, word processing, and presentation software
from Microsoft ®
6. Excellent networking and organizational skills to work with different teams and crops with
overlapping activities
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex molecular
concepts in language understandable to other scientists
