Description


Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of its Trait Integration programs based in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. Your primary responsibility is to serve as a Research Associate for the Cotton Trait Integration program. You will closely interact with mainland Breeding Technology colleagues as well as MSP Puerto Rico team members to facilitate the operations of the programs.

As a Research Associate you will use database systems to manage field work-flows including nursery preparation, management, and tissue sampling. In addition, the right candidate will possess strong supervisory skills and will have a record of innovation.



Responsibilities:

Manage testing and evaluation of new biotechnology traits
* All technical aspects associated with the program including: activities related to trial and inventory management, handheld computers for data collection and utilization of research equipment such as planter and combines.
* Assure that all work done with transgenic material meets regulatory compliance standards: Regulated seed shipping oversight is a key responsibility.
* Preparation for/and planting, field plot maintenance, data collection and harvesting
* Interact with scientists and breeders on and off-site for project related needs.
* Participate in task-related document creation and process review for job-related activities
* Administer the breeding nurseries and recruit, train, and develop temporary personnel
* Ensure that company assets are well-cared and properly maintained
* Commitment meeting site safety requirements as well as foster a safe working environment.



Qualifications


Required Skills/Experience:

* BS in a biological science or an agricultural related field of study
* 3+ years relevant crop production or agricultural research experience.
* Field research experience, understanding of breeding methodologies
* Fluent English/Spanish
* Outstanding organizational skills
* Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects through completion
* Effective computer skills, specifically using MS Office programs

Desired Skills/Experience:

* MS in Crop Science, Agronomy or related field of study.
* Trait integration experience
* Experience working with cotton
* Experience with MIDAS/RUBICON
* Experience with plant tissue sampling for molecular analysis
