Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with ability to work as part of the Global Breeding Team. The Lead Scientist - Statistical Geneticist will have responsibility for leading a team of Statistical Geneticists working in collaboration with other researchers across our Corn Breeding organization.

This position offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art experimental techniques and analytical platforms to provide extensive opportunities for development of novel statistical methodologies or the creative application of existing methods.

Responsibilities:

* Lead a statistical genetics team, researching methods of genetic prediction via the combined use of molecular markers, pedigree and phenotypic data.
* Coordinate the development of statistical methods and procedures to improve the prediction of genetic merit
* Drive the active improvement of plant breeding programs via novel prediction methods or breeding strategies
* Collaborate with statisticians and plant breeders to share learning between related breeding research activities
* Interact effectively in cross-functional teams within Monsanto to drive innovation and scientific discovery
* Manage cost center budgets and forecasting

Qualifications

Experience:

* Ph.D. or equivalent in the field of Plant Breeding & Genetics, Statistical Genetics or Quantitative Genetics
* Significant experience in marker-assisted selection, molecular breeding or genomic selection
* Strong understanding of plant breeding
* A solid foundation in statistical theory and with a strong interest in applied statistical analysis methodologies
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex concepts in language understandable by scientists from a variety of disciplines
