Monsanto Muscatine's Plant may have just the opportunity you are looking for - an engaging and diverse opportunity as a Process Engineer. At Monsanto our Process Engineering position is a hands-on position that requires the successful candidate to build strong relationships throughout our manufacturing site. As a key member of our Manufacturing Team, you will be responsible for providing chemical process knowledge, scheduling, logistics, product quality, and process engineering support to our manufacturing areas. Primary responsibilities for this position will focus on maintaining the production schedule via working with production planning and other engineering units globally. This can include statistical monitoring of production metrics and identification, definition, and cost analysis of improvement projects.
This role will also provide technical support to troubleshoot and solve problems impacting raw material yields, capacity, quality, environmental compliance, and safety. In addition, this role will be responsible to help identify cost savings and on-stream time improvements by tracking key performance indicators (KPIs).
Responsibilities include:
* Monitor and analyze operating data from the manufacturing process using statistical tools, both proactively (statistical quality/process control) and reactively (troubleshooting)
* Create or change documentation related to process operation, safety, and applicable environmental regulations as needed
* Work to identify area leverages for cost improvement
* Identify opportunities for improvements related to safety, yields, capacity, quality, or cost
* Develop scopes defining projects, including alternatives and cost benefit analysis
* Assist both production and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and correcting problems related to yields, capacity, quality, environmental compliance and/or safety
* Assist other area engineers as needed (production, maintenance, electrical, project)
* Comply with plant safety rules, and actively work to improve safety through coaching or engineered improvements
* Support plantwide development and improvement through participation on plantwide initiatives and committees
* Maintain the production schedules in MIMI/SAP
* Support the raw material coordinator in scheduling, with a focus on managing demurrage and increased working capital levels, versus risk of production interruption.
* Manage raw material inventory
* Track key performance indicators and conversion costs pertinent to monthly raw material usage, product volumes, and technical practices
* As necessary, assist area leadership and develop leadership skills through successful interactions with the Manufacturing Team.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required. Chemical Engineering degree is preferred.
Experience
5 or more years of chemical manufacturing experience in an engineering or leadership capacity.

Desired skills/education/experience/attributes (ideal candidate):

* Production scheduling experience is considered a plus
* Self -assessment skills about one's problem-solving and analytical abilities is desired
Position is in a manufacturing environment, and requires the ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs on a regular basis. Position also requires the ability to access all areas of the plant in order to troubleshoot, collect data, and develop projects. In addition, troubleshooting will infrequently require the employee to lift items weighing up to 40lbs. Some areas will require the use of a respirator. A limited amount of travel is expected to visit venders, headquarters, other sites, and development classes.
