Description

As a Government Affairs Director for Monsanto located in our Washington D.C. Office, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of policy outreach to Congress, federal departments and agencies on matters related to Monsanto. As an external advocacy for Monsanto, the successful candidate will ensure policies support Monsanto's external image.

The Government Affairs Director will assist in the development of Monsanto's positions on business issues and advocate policy positions with officials in the US Government, and other Governments represented in Washington. Internal to Monsanto, this work requires supporting and coordinating policies that enable the company's freedom to operate. This position will also be responsible for coordinating across the entire government affairs team and managing necessary follow-up resources.

The successful candidate for this role will be a strong team player with seven or more years of government affairs experience including in-depth knowledge of the current administration as well as the House and Senate of the 111th Congress.

Specific Responsibilities:

-Build and coordinate relationships with key political staff and government officials in the Administration and Congress to ensure freedom to operate. This will include the monitoring and implementation of policies to support Monsanto's business interests.

This position will further offer you the opportunity to coordinate with company business, law, and scientific representatives to develop Monsanto policy positions, strategies and tactics to advocate company positions with regard to new or amended federal legislation, new or amended federal regulations, or public policy.

-Leverage credibility and extensive relationships to enhance Monsanto's image and to expand the Company's networks and relationships with key stakeholders.

-Enhance Monsanto's expertise in the Federal legislative process. Ensure Monsanto's business interests are appropriately reflected in Federal fiscal policy.

-Communicate both verbally and in writing with Monsanto's business teams on significant policy issues under review in the Federal Government. This person will develop position papers, distribute reports, and recommend actions for the business teams and Monsanto management's consideration.

-Represent the company at various meetings, political events and speaking opportunities when assigned or invited. Serve as the host for company officials and key customers when visiting Washington for meetings, hearings or presentations. Ensure the officials are properly briefed on the issues and that testimony is prepared and reviewed with other appropriate members of Company management.

-Develop and execute educational programs for company employees, external audiences and key relationships on important issues.

Qualifications

· Minimum of 7 years of prior congressional employment (work experience on Capitol Hill)
· A law degree (JD) from an accredited university
· Proven skills in compiling, evaluating, and presenting legislative information and policy analysis and research
· Ability to influence outcomes and people utilizing fact-based information and analysis
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Preferred Experience:
· Private Sector work experience
· Employment at one or more of the Trade Associations and/or Corporate Government Affairs Department.
