Description
At Monsanto, we are using leading-edge biotechnology to revolutionize agriculture. We seek a top-notch Research Assistant to work as a team member in Monsanto's Wheat Breeding Program, an innovative effort to improve Wheat yield, quality and other characteristics. This position will assist in developing and executing a program in Doubled Haploids for Wheat Improvement, and will report to the Wheat Doubled Haploid Lead.
Responsibilities:
Assistance with all activities entailed in execution of a doubled haploid program, including, but not limited to, care and maintenance of plants, tissue culture, ordering and preparation of supplies, data collection, and reporting. The successful candidate will have experience in the above, plus demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn, to teach others and to carry out diverse technical activities in the lab, growth chamber and greenhouse.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
Requirements include:
1) Bachelors or Masters degree in plant sciences/biology or closely related field
2) Experience with tissue culture techniques and greenhouse maintenance of plants
3) Familiarity with biotechnology, molecular biology, and genomics
4) Experience with accurate data collection and management
5) Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office, database and data analysis software
Desired Skills:
Previous work with Wheat research is highly valued. In addition, organizational efficiency, detail orientation, strong work ethic & sense of responsibility, excellent communication skills, ability to work well in a team-based atmosphere, and commitment to a safe work environment, are all necessary attributes for this position. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with the motivation and initiative to make a technically challenging project successful.
Other Information:
Occasional travel (totaling no more than 5%) may be required. This full-time, year-round, permanent position offers a compensation package commensurate with experience and with high expectations, as well as opportunities for professional growth.
