Description
Purpose of Position
Monsanto is seeking a Research Associate to become part of the Breeding organization. The Research Associate will support the program leader to meet strategic plans and goals related to Monsanto's Cotton Global Seed Business for the area of responsibility. The researcher will perform lab experiments and document results for the generation of data. The researcher will also run molecular diagnostic methods in addition to validating and improving methods used in research experiments.
The Research Associate has a critical role in the design and processing of experiments associated with the progression of, fulfillment of production requirements, and communication with collaborators.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
· All aspects of the research program including experiment design, set up and implementation
· Perform efficiently methods and techniques used in the lab such as:
· Program and run robotics for DNA extraction and PCR
· Collect, analyze and summarize data
· Trouble shoot problems
· Data monitoring to facilitate process improvement projects
· Develop and implement SOPs and champion QMS/ISO initiatives
· Operate and maintain lab tracking tools like LIMS
· Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment and chemicals in a safe and correct manner
· Supervise assistants, technicians, hourly and seasonal employees to ensure procedures are performed accurately and in an efficient and correct manner
Qualifications
Required skills
· M.S. or B.S. degree in genetics, molecular biology, plant science or related fields with 3-5 years of experience
· Basic knowledge of plant genetics and breeding
· Experience and knowledge in PCR, sequencing, and other routine molecular lab skills
· Ability to work in a team environment, to track and manage complex projects under the direction of the lead scientist
· Self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
Desired Experience:
· Previous experience in a high throughput molecular biology lab
· Previous experience in the biotechnology industry
