Primary Job Responsibilities



Provides the intellectual leadership necessary to establish and implement an integrated set of mission support functions. Assure the efficient and effective delivery of the Laboratory’s mission support functions in a manner that enables Argonne’s Mission while protecting the assets of DOE and UChicago Argonne, LLC. Establish the policies and processes under which these support organizations operate. Serves as a member of the Laboratory’s policy-makers bodies.



Responsible for integrated delivery of high quality mission support to Argonne’s mission organizations. In close partnership with senior leadership across the Laboratory, provide continuous improvement of mission support services from a responsiveness, quality, compliance and cost perspective.



Design, construct and operate a set of integrated support management systems that enable the mission while meeting the requirements of the contract and protecting the assets of UChicago-Argonne, LLC and DOE.



Develop or recruit a candre of support managers who understand the UChicago-Argonne, LLC mission support approach and who can operate it with distinction.



Develop the annual mission support budget for the Director’s approval that efficiently and effectively delivers the services that are needed for and aligned with the ANL mission.



Assure that the mission support functions are well integrated and that functional and priority conflicts are resolved in the best interest of the laboratory and its plan and strategies.



Review and approval all lab-level mission support policies, standards and procedures to assure they will achieve their intended outcome in the most cost and time effective manner.



Lead the laboratory’s continuous improvement process in order to deliver only the necessary services effectively at the lowest cost.

Training and Experience



Comprehensive management experience including strategy development, personnel development and budgetary management.


Comprehensive knowledge of Laboratory policies, Prime Contract, and Department of Energy regulations.



Comprehensive verbal and written communication skills, operational logic, and program management.



Comprehensive leadership skills, analytical and problem solving abilities, ability to establish effective working relationships.




Other Essential Functions



Safety, Security and Environmental Protection: All activities, as they apply to work performed by self or by personnel under supervision, will be executed in compliance with ES&H and security responsibilities established by Argonne National Laboratory’s ES&H policies, Safeguards and Security policies, work rules, and safe practices.

Other Requirements



Ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” clearance.
