Electrical Engineer

Primary Job Responsibilities



Senior Electrical Engineer located in Oak Ridge Tennessee; independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis within the discipline. Develops designs that require innovation and ingenuity. Work performed with minimal supervision; has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.



· Evaluates the desired goal of the system and develops, designs, or selects the required equipment and controls to achieve the goal

· Performs calculations and evaluations in the design of equipment and systems for industrial and commercial applications

· Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects

· Directs activities to ensure that construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, recognized codes and standards, and customer requirements

· Maintains effective communication with project team members and with the customer

· May direct and coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations

· May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks


Training and Experience



Minimum of 15 years of experience in design of Electrical systems, BS or MS in Electrical Engineering and PE registration required. Extensive knowledge of NFPA 70, International Electrical Code, electrical systems design from the secondary side of substation transformer to individual circuits fed from distribution panels, MCC design and lighting design a must. Knowledge of control systems (DCS and PLC) hardware design is preferred but not required. Must have excellent writing skills and be somewhat AutoCAD literate. Must be able to create singleline drawings, MCC drawings, lighting drawings, specifications and calculations with minimal supervision. Industrial, DOE and DOD electrical design experience is desirable and must be annotated on resume. Proven track record of design of retrofit projects is a must.

Other Essential Functions

Essential functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pullingm, and fine manipulation. RIght and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. No exposure to tobacco smoke.
