Primary Job Responsibilities
Responsible for leading and building a team of process engineers performing a variety of engineering tasks relating to projects in the food and consumer products industries. The right candidate will handle a wide range of engineering projects, in accordance with our client’s policies, safety, design standards and procedures. Must be able to work independently and make sound engineering decisions and recommendations. Must be able to maintain effective communication with project team members and with the client.
This position will require direct interfacing with the client and an understanding of the unique technology/ design requirements encountered in these industries. Examples of these include
· Good sanitary design practices. Knowledge of 3A Standards helpful
· Batch processing
· Non-Newtonian fluid dynamics
· CIP/ COP design
· Aseptic design
· Thermal processing
· Canning
· Aerosol spray applications
· Material handling/ dust collection in accordance with NFPA 68
· Selection and application of suitable materials of construction
A key responsibility of this individual will be to develop and maintain process technology expertise in these areas and to be up to date with business activities and emerging trends in these industries. This individual will be accountable for the technical quality of designs completed in these industries.
As a Lead Process Engineer, this individual will have the responsibility to direct engineering teams in all phases of projects including all design phases, construction, commissioning and start-up. Will complete assigned engineering projects in accordance with defined Scopes-of-Work, project schedule and within budget limitations. Experience with the preparation of typical process and process equipment engineering deliverables is a necessity. These include
· Selection of process technology to be utilized and determination/documentation of process design basis
· Preparation of process flow diagrams (PFDs)
· Preparation of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
· Preparation of equipment specifications for procurement
· Estimation of process and plant utility requirements for equipment. Conducting utility load studies.
· Preparation of process/ operating descriptions
Construction support, commissioning and start-up experience desirable.
Training and Experience
15+ years of experience required, BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or related discipline, PE registration desirable
