Job Description and Qualifications Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The identification and scoping of market opportunities, development of business concepts for selected market opportunities, and supporting execution of external and internal development projects within existing business areas are the three elements of this position. Most of the role will be project-based and highly integrated with existing core business areas rather than building step-out autonomous ventures. The role will require thriving in uncertainty and providing vision, strategies, and tactics that facilitate execution to deliver enhanced margins and accelerate growth leveraging Air Products core industrial gases assets. To thrive, one will need to be willing to champion business concepts they feel passionately will satisfy general manager’s aspirations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Identify, shape, and share adjacent business concepts with general and marketing managers using discovery driven planning methods.
• Achieve initial funding of programs/projects to execute business concepts approved by general managers (i.e., tactical marketing, application development, offering development and introduction, and external development).
• Support marketing managers in developing and executing growth programs already funded by business areas.
• Lead or participate in the strategic marketing of adjacent segments:
- Conduct market research and model customer next-best alternatives
- Facilitate cross-business/function events and collaboration
- Segment and clarify targets in the selected market opportunity based on attractiveness and fit with existing business areas
- Develop and communicate market strategy for the adjacent segment
- Develop key connections both externally and internally to enable business area to deliver results.
-Approximately 20% domestic travel is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS degree required.
• Ability to gain credibility quickly with business area teams and senior managers.
• Desire to use this position to gain future assignments in APD business areas by leveraging a marketing excellence team member as a mentor and sponsor.
• Marketing, Strategic Planning, or Entrepreneurship MBA preferred, but not required.
• Technical undergraduate degree preferred, but not required.
• At least three years of experience in a marketing, development, or sales roles.
• Experience with primary and secondary market research techniques.
• Familiarity with Discovery Driven Planning, Lead-User, Voice-of-Customer and other methods used in the front end is highly desirable, but not required.
• Ability to work in the fuzzy front end and on high-uncertainty or high risk projects.
• Self-motivated individual who has the desire to explore new markets, engage with new customers, and define new opportunities.
• Ability to organize teams and utilize the skill base of the other team members to move forward (i.e., project management and facilitation skills).
