Job Description and Qualifications Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for an Electrical Technician. Incumbent will operate out of his/her residence in the Chicago area or from one of the major Air Products facilities, and have global responsibility.
Position Responsibilities:
Electrical Technicians have a very demanding position requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently, and if necessary, also have the ability to lead a crew. Technicians are expected to respond to Operations requirements on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis. Generally, Electrical Technicians average 60-65 hours per week and they travel away from home about 75% of the time. The facilities at which work is performed are located throughout the United States. International travel outside of North America is expected to be low, but is possible.
The Electrical Technician performs and/or supervises the inspection, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and modification of induction and synchronous motors, transformers, high and low voltage switchgear, protective relays, switchgear starters, transformers, generators, distribution systems and associated equipment controls and protective equipment in Global Operations operated plants, joint ventures, subsidiaries, and third party facilities.
The Electrical Technician will be responsible to develop worn component refurbishment procedures and follow through on repairs and spare parts replacements based on electrical engineering recommendations and must be able to provide technical decision-making support for major equipment repairs.
The Electrical Technician must be able to develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul, be able to prepare and provide technical reports as well as enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information to enable others in the organization to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma with preferred relative technical school or college degree. Relative experience will be given strong consideration in lieu of formal education.
- Minimum 10 years experience in the petrochemical and manufacturing industry, and in low, medium and high voltage electrical equipment maintenance, start-up or commissioning environment; practical knowledge relating to electrical distribution, motors and motor controls, conduit and wiring practices, lighting and grounding as well as familiarity with the National Electrical Code, particularly hazardous locations, is highly desirable. Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills and safe work skills.
Strong basic computer skills is a prerequisite.
- Must be a team player in a team environment.
- Self starter and self motivator.
- Ability to work extended hours and to travel with short notice.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment to include lifting, climbing, etc., and at heights and in confined spaces.
This is a ladder position and advancement is possible based on experience and demonstrated competency.
