Job Description and Qualifications Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a PRINCIPAL ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE - Process Safety at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Technical excellence in process safety by Air Products has been recognized throughout the chemical and gas industries and is a key differentiator for our company. As the company continues to grow and expand into new businesses, technologies, regions, and apply new execution approaches, it is critical that we continue to retain senior level specialists ensuring that the design and operation of our facilities is carried out successfully, incorporating our best available knowledge and practices in process safety.
This position is accountable for directing the technical evaluation, development, quality control, standardization and training associated with process safety tools and programs for use within Air Products globally. The individual will lead the Process Safety functional risk review process globally, will be the key technical resource in process safety focusing on new technologies, acquisitions and mergers, and will lead major risk analyses for these activities. The individual will develop new initiatives and standards to ensure Air Products maintains its leadership globally in process safety.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Our abilities to measure process risk well and develop the tools and practices to do so most efficiently has a large impact on the cost of safety and our ability to expedite projects. This position will:
- Continue to evolve the tools and practices to allow that to happen.
- Develop the engineering and EH&S standards necessary to ensure consistency globally.
- Be the single point of contact for high level process safety technical problem solving within the corporation.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Lead the Process Safety Functional Risk Review process globally.
• Determine needs and direct evaluation of new quantitative and qualitative tools either developed internally or externally within Air Products.
• Support implementation of process safety tools globally.
• Develop and implement new process safety standards, both engineering and EH&S.
• Serve as process safety technical liaison to industry programs such as CCPS, LPS.
• Perform and/or help oversee major risk studies for the corporation, especially for new acquisitions or mergers.
• Lead major incident investigations and maintain Senior level interface with legal and insurance teams.
• Be the process safety liaison to Air Products security programs.
• Develop and deliver new process safety training programs.
• Provide senior level technical support of process safety due diligence efforts for acquisitions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum BS in Chemical Engineering; advanced degree in Chemical Engineering highly preferred.
• Approximately 20 years of experience in Technology, Engineering or Operations in the gases / chemical industry, a minimum of 10 years in process safety specific experience with emphasis on risk assessment, quantification, and review.
• A strong industry presence in the process safety and related functions with established networking.
• A demonstrated credibility with the stakeholder organizations – Commercial, Technology, Global Engineering, and Global Operations, and ability to drive resolution of complex process safety issues in a timely manner.
• A strong technical background, a thorough grasp of fundamentals, and thorough understanding of use of process safety analytical tools.
• Willingness to challenge traditional approaches, ability to effectively deliver “bad news,” and put forward unpopular ideas upward.
