Position Description
• Plan and oversee the preparation and review of state separate and unitary returns.
• Work with staff and business units to ensure the timely input of state allocation information and evaluate the information for accuracy.
• Review state separate and unitary income tax returns utilizing the Department’s tax preparation software.
• Oversee state return calendar, adjust calendar as needed.
• Ensure timely filing of all state and local quarterly estimated payments and state extensions.
• Maintain state effective tax rates computations for FAS 109 purposes along with recalculation for both current and deferred taxes on a quarterly basis.
• Prepare and review responses prepared by staff to state taxing authority inquiries.
• Review payment and receipt vouchers for internal and external tax payments and tax settlements.
• Work with State Advisory Group in identifying potential state planning ideas or change in methodology and assist in the implementation.
• Review tax accruals prepared by local company comptroller’s departments to ensure compliance with FAS109.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or comparable experience.
• 5-7 years of experience supporting hands on SALT compliance in a large complex corporate environment, preferably in financial services.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of the tax code and tax regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of state & local tax laws and compliance.
• Working knowledge of FAS 109 and related tax accounting guidance.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to influence, drive consensus and negotiate effectively.
• Intermediate to advance knowledge of Excel needed.
• Knowledge of tax accounting/compliance software needed.
