Senior Analyst - Performance Measurement
Job ID #: 51000
Location: NY-New York
Functional Area: Investment Mgmt
Company Name: Alico
Employment Type: Full Time - Regular
Education Preferred: Masters
Experience Required: 3-5 years
Relocation Provided: No
Position Description
The Senior Analyst is responsible for contributing to the generation and implementation of performance measurement policies for ALICO. Performance measurement for life insurance companies covers two major areas:
1. Performance of actual investment strategies versus asset benchmarks
2. Deviation of benchmark assumptions and analytics from best practice
The second component above relates primarily to the actuarial assumptions and analytics used to create the liability profile critical to benchmark creation.
The Senior Analyst would need to assess the existing infrastructure of data and analytics required for effective performance measurement, and recommend improvements to that infrastructure in order to aid a robust performance measurement process.
While this position is within ALICO Home Office Investments, ALICO’s major operations are located in overseas markets. Since performance measurement is largely a local activity, the Senior Analyst would work in conjuction with the network of performance measurement regimes, particularly in ALICO’s larger operations. The Senior Analyst would assist ALICO in determining global minimum standards, ensuring that local operations have sufficient resources to implement these standards, and monitoring the implementation of these standards globally. The Senior Analyst would have particular responsibility for identifying Home Office responsibilities and performance within the performance measurement framework.
Working with the Director of Performance Measurement, the Senior Analyst would ensure that performance measurement reporting:
1. Reaches the major stakeholders in the ALM process
2. Is incorporated into major ALM decisions, including risk limits
In the initial cycle (expected to be two years), performance measurement will be used primarily to backtest investment strategy decisions and exposure limits. Thereafter, performance measurement is expected to become a significant component of performance-related compensation for investment and ALM-related actuarial staff.
Governance
This position will ultimately report to the ALICO’s Director of Performance Measurement. Until that position is filled, this position will report to the Director of Investment Portfolio Strategies within ALICO Home Office Investments.
Position Requirements
The successful applicant must have training and a proven track record of success in asset management within the insurance industry including:
1. Expertise in a wide variety of asset classes and derivatives
2. Familiarity with actuarial reporting and ALM requirements
3. Familiarity with accounting and risk management practices within life insurance companies
Previous performance measurement experience is positive but not a requirement. More specifically, the successful applicant should meet the following requirements:
1. Masters degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Sciences preferred
2. At least two years experience within asset management or ALM
3. At least two years experience with:
a. Insurance products, particularly life insurance
b. Asset-Liability management
c. Accounting requirements in the insurance industry
4. Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills
5. Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of skill sets, personalities and cultures
6. Ability to deliver near-term deliverables while planning and tracking continuous improvements for future needs
7. Ambition to grow beyond this specific position within the organization
While this position’s primary responsibilities are in the performance measurement space, the applicant may be asked to perform other duties within the Investment Management area, including asset-liability management, generation and maintenance of asset benchmarks, and derivatives management. Based upon the applicant’s interests, capabilities and performance (as well as demand for these alternative functions), these functions can become alternative career paths for the applicant.
