Position Description
MISSION

The Retirement Services HR Operations team supports eight major AIG Retirement Services (AIGRS) businesses, with 6,000+ employees. The primary client is the Human Resources team of approximately 65 professionals. The HR Operations group is responsible for HR-related project management, HR financial management, HR-related systems and applications, HR-related process management and improvement, and employee communications.

STRUCTURE

The Managing Consultant will report directly to the Vice President, HR Operations. Primary responsibility for this position will be management of Project Office. Initially established as an individual contributor role, this position will be highly visible and influential across multiple stakeholders, and will typically include leadership of significant projects and management of contractors. The potential for growth into a leadership position in the function is excellent for an outstanding contributor.

PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES

1. Manage Project Office. Quickly become thoroughly familiar with the existing project management discipline for RS HR. Regularly assess PMO approaches and tools and maintain a continuous improvement environment, using stakeholder feedback to identify improvement opportunities. Demonstrate the ability to effectively coach project leaders in managing their projects to successful completion. Serve as a subject matter expert and conduct training in PMO methodology for various HR audiences, including HR teams for other SunAmerica Financial Group businesses.

2. Develop internal markets for services. Develop a standardized approach for internal marketing (business development) of selected systems and services. Internal marketing methodology will include rigorous measures of ROI in human capital management.

3. Build and sustain key business relationships. Meet with all senior RS HR leaders and functional heads, learning about their areas of responsibility and key issues, initiatives, and strategic priorities for 2010. Establish highly effective working relationships with key stakeholders in the HR Service Center, IT functions, PeopleSoft and HR Operations teams, and other AIG client businesses.

4. Demonstrate expertise in use of technology. Utilize advanced skills in the use of Project, Excel, and Word to perform assigned responsibilities, while also contributing to important projects for the entire HR Operations team.

5. Effectively support the HR Operations team as both member and leader. The success of the HR Operations team is based on a highly collaborative model for working across technical lines. The incumbent in this highly influential position is expected to behave as a model of teamwork, and to demonstrate influence and leadership with colleagues both inside and outside the HR Operations team.

Position Requirements
REQUIREMENTS

1. Demonstrated ability in effectively coaching others and in personally managing projects to successful completion.
2. Evidence of key personal contribution to the selection and implementation of one or more major processes or technologies. Examples in our environment include new Time and Attendance and Electronic Records Management systems.
3. Well-established capability in determining return on investment methodologies in a service industry environment.
4. Proven ability to work effectively at stakeholders at all levels in the organization and a collaborative approach to working within the team.
5. Track record of early and effective adoption and application of technology (including desktop applications) to traditional processes. Advanced skills in Project, Excel, Word, and Access.
6. Sufficient practical experience (6-10 years in industry) to function effectively as a key contributor in a large and complex organization.
7. At least a Bachelor's degree.
