Position Description
General Description: The position will be responsible for support and oversight of exception case underwriting review/approval for group insurance (Group Life, Disability, Health) product lines and underwriting portfolio management spanning group insurance and credit insurance (Credit Life, Disability, and ILOE) products lines for ALICO globally. This position will provide support and oversight for regional group underwriters in the areas of underwriting training, underwriting guidelines development and periodic audits. This position will support HO management with underwriting portfolio management analysis in efforts to maximize profitable growth for the group and credit insurance portfolios working closely with HO and regional underwriting management. International travel up to 15% of the time will be required to perform / conduct / lead both (a) underwriting training and (b) underwriting audits of regional and local ALICO operations and partner companies for multinational pooling business reinsured to ALICO.
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Review and approval of large and exception case underwriting proposals/renewals from regional offices beyond regional authority limits within service metrics for TAT.
2. Develop, set and communicate underwriting policies, authority levels, workflows and process management, including underwriting manual development and distribution.
3. Assist in managing and reporting appropriate underwriting metrics / standards and controls.
4. Conduct portfolio underwriting reviews that reconcile with reported financials, to identify both areas of underwriting corrective action and opportunities for profitable growth.
5. Identify and conduct underwriting audits and training of local ALICO operations and Multinational Pooling partner companies, in order to support implementation of underwriting best practices and support development of key regional and local underwriting personnel.
6. Work closely with product/pricing actuarial in order to support updates to pricing and products, consistent with emerging underwriting results.
7. Work closely with ALICO reinsurance management in order to provide underwriting oversight for pooling and captives reinsurance arrangements with partner companies.
8. Form strong and effective relationships with regional and local field underwriters in order to develop stronger expertise and capabilities in ALICO regions.
Position Requirements
• College Degree, Master’s preferred.
• 10+ years of insurance industry experience.
• 5-10 years of Group Insurance case and portfolio Underwriting/Pricing Experience in Group Insurance (Group Life, Disability, Health), Credit Insurance, or Association Group.
• Group Insurance Financial Arrangements such as profit sharing arrangements, Multinational Pooling, Captives, Underwriting Audits/Training, Reinsurance negotiation are useful skill sets.
• Ability to establish credibility quickly with experienced local/regional field underwriting heads as an expert in group underwriting and group/credit insurance product lines within 6 months time.
• Ability to learn new markets/products quickly and translate learning into value added to support regional and local field underwriters.
• Solid communication and relationship building skills with field underwriters, Home Office team, multinational/global corporate clients, and regional and home office management.
• A combination of US domestic and International experience is preferred, but exclusive US domestic or International experience will be considered.
• Actuarial experience in order to develop depth of understanding of group insurance pricing models a plus.
