Vice President, K-12 Education Market
Overview
The Vice President, K-12 Education Market will support the overall growth and development of the K-12 retirement plan market including the acquisition and retention of 403(b), 401(a), and 457 retirement plans. VALIC’s target markets include group retirement plans in K-12 Education, Higher Education, Government, and Healthcare.
Organization:
This position is located in Houston, Texas with frequent travel – 60%. It retains a direct reporting relationship to the Executive Vice President, Group Management and National Markets and works closely with the Group Acquisition and Retention team and Field Management team.
Performance Objectives:
1. Collaborate with the Executive Vice President, Group Management and National Markets to develop and manage the K-12 education market strategy and business plan
• Lead the K-12 education business planning process to support the annual company business plan
2. Maintain, build, and establish effective relationships with associations and key K-12 education decision-makers and plan sponsors, as well as retirement plan consultants to support growth and development of the K-12 Education market.
• Leverage existing relationships with industry associations and clients to grow the market
3. Participate in new business development and retention activities by collaborating with the Vice Presidents of Relationship Management (VPRM) team and the Field Management team to proactively identify potential K-12 Education market opportunities within their geographic territories.
• Coordinate and manage the national K-12 Education market new business pipeline
4. Participate in the planning and execution of the K-12 Education Retirement Advisory Council activities and communications. Coordinate association and conference sponsorships, marketing and entertainment events.
5. Key success factors for this position within the first year will be evaluated on results derived from activity, such as:
• Achieve positive variance to 2010 K-12 Education business plan.
• Log at least fifty meaningful K-12 plan sponsor contacts with new or existing clients developed through state and national association activities.
• Identify at least twenty five new K-12 group prospects as a result of speaking engagements, industry presentations and association sponsorships and entertainment or networking activities.
Position Requirements
• Solid understanding of the K-12 Education marketplace, the competitors and the customers, preferably with financial industry experience working in the retirement services market.
• Existing relationships with K-12 education groups or industry associations. Experience with both public and private K-12 associations and decision makers are valued.
• Strong knowledge of Defined Contribution plans as they relate to the retirement products, including employer sponsored 403(b) and 401(a) plans, as well as public DB, ORP and 457 plans.
• A demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence key “C” level executives and governmental oversight boards or committees.
• Outstanding customer contact and sales skills, including expert strategic and consultative skills and experience.
• Demonstrated superior presentation, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to travel extensively, and with little notice.
