Position Description
Position Summary
In this newly created position you will be tasked with orchestrating key initiatives for the Affluent and Corporate Markets Group (ACMG) from requirement documentation through the implementation. Specifically, you will act as a liaison between ACMG and IT. A critical component of success includes the creation of guidelines/manuals outlining how projects and initiatives involving IT, need to be carried out from concept to requirements to completion.
Organization Structure
This position reports to the Vice President of Administration and Operations of the Affluent and Corporate Markets Group (ACMG), American General Life Companies. The Vice President reports to the Senior Vice President, Specialty Markets.
The Affluent and Corporate Markets Group (ACMG) division is made up of two lines of business. The Affluent side focuses on Private Placement products for high net worth individuals. The Corporate Markets line of business specializes in products used to fund executive benefit plans for corporations (and Banks). Because of the division’s clientele and unique products, a high level of customization is required for administration of both lines of business. This customization requires a greater use of external software vendors. A key component in the administration process of the business is the use of new technology that enables ACMG to better service clients.
Clients: The position will be located in Houston, primarily serving Houston ACMG business and technology needs. In addition, the Business Systems & Development Consultant will partner with other personnel within ACMG to liaise with IT.
Performance Objectives:
• Project Management. Coordinate and/or lead cross-functional/company project initiatives in support of company strategic initiatives and goals. Project activities may include: Project initiation – assist with definition of project scope and design of project approach. Project administration - development, monitoring, and maintenance of project plans and other key project documentation. Facilitation and/or participation on relevant project teams. Active communication of priorities and strategic initiatives to team members. Communication of project status and issues with all stakeholders. Identification of key issues/problems and facilitation of their resolution. Monitoring of project status, analysis of impact of changes and appropriate plan modification.
• Business Process Analysis and Redesign. Identify and document current business processes and/or system workflows. Identify, prioritize and document business requirements for specific initiatives. Perform business process, workflow, vendor and best practices analyses. Monitor the internal and external environments for issues/trends that affect project analysis and solution design. Develop and present recommendations to the ACMG leadership team.
• Business Consulting. Consult with management to identify and develop financial system strategies to support key business objectives. Identify and facilitate consideration of external best-practice information into project process and systems design/redesign. Conduct research and analysis to support decision-making. Develop solutions that will produce positive results in a cost-effective manner.
• Other. Help manage department-specific projects, as needed. Continuously enhance job/industry knowledge and skills through professional development activities.
Position Requirements
The Ideal Candidate Should Have:
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in project management.
• Professional skills including group facilitation, change management, and conflict resolution, along with demonstrated strong organizational, oral communication and business writing abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, involving various departments and levels of employees.
• Knowledge of and /or experience with project management software tools and methodology a plus. Must be able to collaborate, build and maintain effective relationships across organizational lines and within a small professional team.
