Position Description
Position Summary
The position is responsible for overseeing reinsurance operations which includes premium billing, claims collection, cash settlements, and cession administration. The position will work closely with external reinsurance clients and internal financial reporting, operations (new business, underwriting, claims), and legal staff.
Organizational Reporting
This position reports to the Vice President – Reinsurance (Financial Reporting)
Performance Objectives
• Manage a staff of eight individuals (includes managing staff performance, coordination of training, and periodic status reports to management)
• Responsible for supervising the monthly premium billing process, the daily death claims reimbursement process, cash settlements with reinsurers, and cession administration
• Responsible for supervising the activities necessary to process reinsurance transactions that involve plan code changes, terminations, policy reinstatements, new business, and facultative policy issuance.
• Manage the overall functions of the client reporting process to ensure that all reinsurance clients are satisfied. Ensure that customer service inquiries and complaints are handled timely and in compliance with company guidelines. Ensure that all information that is submitted to the reinsurance client is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Monitor the financial results of reinsurance transactions processed by the department
• Primary liaison for reinsurance client issues, including all scheduled claim and full score audits
• Develop, evaluate, and implement ways to streamline the existing process in order to eliminate redundancies and enhance all areas of internal and external customer service
• Assist the Business Analyst – Technical Support function in converting any processes that are manual and should be automated on TAI
Position Requirements
The Ideal Candidate Should Have:
• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance
• Five plus years experience in a supervisory role ideally in a client services or policy-owner services environment
• Strong PC skills (MS Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point)
• Experience working for either a direct writer or a top Life/A&H reinsurance entity
• Knowledge of policy administration procedures, including new business, premium billings and death claims, and ability to interpret reinsurance treaties and documents
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external personnel such as senior management, internal or external auditors, Insurance Department examiners, and outside reinsurance client personnel
• Experience with TAI or any other reinsurance administration system is a plus
• Working knowledge of ledger process and reporting systems (e.g., SAP and Blackline)
• Overtime may be required to meet external client reporting deadlines
