Job Summary


The engineer is responsible for developing test procedures for Megadiamond’s shear cutter products. These test procedures are expected to provide direct correlation to key shear cutter performance characteristics in the field, including wear resistance and fracture. An active role in the failure analysis of shear cutter products is expected to in order to stay current on the key failure modes of shear cutters. It is expected that the engineer establish a policy of continuous improvement of test procedures through critical and statistical evaluation of test results. The engineer is expected to stay current on relevant developments relating to the testing of ultrahard materials. Further, it is expected that the engineer will strategically apply developing technology within the areas of responsibility.



DUTIES



1) Establish and maintain familiarity with key failure modes of shear cutter products by participation in failure analysis of ultrahard products.

2) Develop understanding of current PCD materials and the manufacturing processes used in production.

3) Develop improved functional test methods for drilling products based on observed shear cutter failure modes

4) Establish written procedures and calibration techniques for new testing procedures.

5) Provide direction and recommendations to product engineering and key customers.





Job Qualifications


· M.S. (or equivalent) in mechanical or ceramic/metallurgical engineering.
· Familiarity with mechanical test methods and procedures for evaluation of ceramic and metallic materials, including impact testing, hardness testing, flexural strength, and fracture toughness testing is expected.
· Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition methods is required. In addition, the engineer is expected to be familiar with standard metallographic techniques including SEM/EDS, XRD, and optical microscopy.
· The demonstrated ability to characterize, critically interpret, communicate, and make decisions based on analytical data is essential.
