Job Summary


The research engineer is responsible for making improvements in PCD materials and processing technology for shear cutter products. The product development emphasis is on making improvements to existing shear cutter products, with general project timelines targeting product introduction in a 6-12 month timeframe. The ability to work in teams with product and application engineers as well as with manufacturing personnel is required for the position. It is expected that the research efforts of this individual will provide strategic incremental improvements to maintain Megadiamond’s technology at the forefront of shear cutter performance and technology – providing our customers with reliable and cost effective solutions to their most challenging drilling applications. It is also expected that he/she will develop relationships with key customers and make strong efforts to understand the relevant technology of the various applications.



DUTIES

1) Provide improved shear cutter products to our customers in key application areas, and assist in acquiring strategic intellectual property for these products.

2) Develop understanding of current PCD materials and the manufacturing processes used in production.

3) Develop an understanding of shear cutter failure modes and key material properties for improving shear cutter product performance.

4) Investigate new materials and processes for potential use in shear cutter products and evaluate the effectiveness of this novel technology.

5) Work with product and manufacturing engineering in implementing new products and concepts to full production.





Job Qualifications


· M.S. or higher degree (or equivalent experience) in ceramic, metallurgical, or mechanical engineering.
· Experience in materials and/or process development targeting specific applications is required, with preference for development in tribological applications.
· A working knowledge of mechanical testing of brittle materials and also methods of microstructural evaluation is expected.
· Familiarity with high pressure/high temperature processing and ultrahard materials is preferred.
· The ability to characterize, critically interpret, communicate, and make decisions based on analytical data is essential.
