Smith International, Inc., a Fortune 500 Company, is a leading supplier of premium products and services to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, the petrochemical industry and other industrial markets. We are seeking to hire a qualified candidate to fill the position of Sr. Compliance Paralegal in our Houston, TX location.



Job Summary



* Research laws and best practices relating to legal compliance and recommend changes; implement approved changes and monitor compliance
* Monitor external developments in compliance, including laws and regulations, government investigations and industry best practices.
* Develop policies/procedures related to legal compliance; research changes in laws/best practices and revise policies/procedures as necessary; implement approved policies/procedures and monitor compliance
* Manage compliance practices applicable to all domestic and international locations
* Coordinate legal compliance with the business units, including coordination with, and providing direction to business unit paralegals.
* Participate in internal and external legal compliance investigations as required
* Prepare presentations and data as required
* Assist with monitoring, tracking and coordination of global training activities and initiatives.
* Manage live and web-based training databases and report statistics, as needed.
* Coordinate with the Compliance Manager to update the legal department web-site.
* Assist with compliance due diligence efforts regarding third-party intermediaries, joint ventures and other commercial activities.
* Create and manage files and databases.



Job Qualifications



* Bachelor’s Degree preferred
* Previous legal experience, preferably with an in house legal department preferred
* Proficient knowledge of legal terminology and processes.
* Basic understanding of matter management.
* Highly organized.
* Strong computer skills including proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Capable of working independently, assuming significant responsibility, and being a self starter.
* Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals.
