Description:

Incumbent will be responsible for the classification and clearance of import shipments in compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, as well as assuming increased responsibilities for the overall effective operation of the Import/Export Department. Helping ensure Company’s adherence to U.S. Customs Laws and regulations as it relates to the importation and exportation of merchandise. In addition, this person will help maintain good working relationships and cooperate actively with Purchasing, Accounting, Order Administration and Logistics; other outside companies including freight forwarders, Customhouse brokers; government bodies and their representatives including U.S. Customs, U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Census Bureau.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Classification of products using (a) the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) according to General
Rules of Interpretation (GRI’s), (b) Binding Rulings, (c) Explanatory Notes, (d) Informed Compliance Publications, (e)
Reasonable Care Guides, and (of) other established Customs information.
• Export Classification assign Export Control Numbers (ECCN) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS, Schedule B, Category
Classification/USML) based upon the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations
(ITAR) and U.S. Customs Regulations.
• Provide responses to Customs requests and notices in a timely fashion (CBP28’s), CBP29’s).
• Audit entry summaries from Customs Brokers for accuracy and compliance.
• Resolve errors found on entry summaries with brokers.
• Correspond with foreign vendors and purchasing to obtain documents and information necessary for Customs clearance.
• Assist Import Managers/supervisor in preparing letters to vendors, brokers, and other parties involved in import and or
export transactions.
• Respond to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import regulation to
ensure timely clearance.
• Maintain and provide the Customhouse broker the information regarding classification.

SKILLS, EDUCATION, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Five + years experience in International Trade and Compliance
• Strong working knowledge and experience in Customs compliance and audit practices.
• Strong working knowledge and experience with Customs regulations and related policies and procedures.
• Bachelors Degree in International Trade, Finance, Accounting or other related field preferred.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written presentation) with ability to implement and conduct training
programs.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and Access
