Line of Business: BANKCARD SERVICES Job Category: Upper Management Primary Purpose: Responsible for all risk management within B&MS including the credit, transaction and fraud risk functions of a multi-billion dollar merchant portfolio and the credit, documentation, systems and transaction-related risk functions of the retail and commercial credit card portfolios. Formulate innovative credit risk, fraud management and regulatory compliance policies for the merchant, bankcard and overdraft protection product lines. Develop, implement and maintain effective risk management processes for underwriting, automated pre-approvals, fraud monitoring and systematic lender and portfolio reviews to insure that the bankcard, overdraft protection and merchant portfolios perform within the guidelines set by Executive Management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other Duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Set strategic direction for the Merchant Services and Bankcard departments related to risk management. Maintain a high level of personal awareness and understanding of existing technology as well as future trends in payment systems risk and fraud management. Insure that BB&T is compliant with industry standards. 2. Establish, review, and implement policy and procedures regarding the underwriting and risk management of all merchant, overdraft and credit card accounts. Serve as a senior officer of BB&T Bankcard Corporation and insure that all risk related policies comply with Georgia law. Maintain liaison with the Mortgage, Direct Retail Lending and Sales Finance departments to insure consistent underwriting and cross selling. 3. Develop, evaluate and manage scoring systems and build predictive behavior models for clients for both merchant and bankcard clients. Develop and coordinate the implementation and management of fraud detection and back end transactional analysis tools for the merchant and bankcard portfolios. Develop and continually refine the TRIAD process for authorizations, line increases/decreases, reissues, overlimit and collections strategies. 4. Establish credit approval and fraud prevention criteria and guidelines specifically related to the continuous review of credit score criteria, model validation, and rule sets. Develop risk management techniques for the ongoing monitoring of quality in judgmentally underwritten banking network loans. 5. Approve Merchant processing relationships, Commercial Card (Business, Corporate and Purchasing), Retail and Constant Credit lines within the guidelines established by the Credit Policy Committee. Provide direct underwriting services and analysis for the Banking Network and Merchant Sales Force through the management and direction of centralized functions for commercial card, retail card and merchant relationships. 6. Facilitate the management of risk at multiple levels including overall relationship risk, operational risk, credit risk, transaction risk, and profitability risk to provide a comprehensive profile down to the client level. 7. Manage delinquency and potential credit loss through liaison with Banking Network commercial loan officers and administrators and with the Special Assets collection department relating to problem accounts. Monitor charge off activity and conduct monthly credit review of large revolving loan relationships and watch list activity. Conduct periodic reviews at the regional and officer levels as appropriate. 8. Provide comprehensive statistical reporting for production, high-risk clients, risk exposure forecasts, and fraud activity for all product lines. Support the bank's Basel initiative and provide input for loan loss reserve calculations. 9. Analyze, implement and manage process improvements related to risk management, product documentation and workflow. Understand and manage the primary processors' (TSYS and Vital) technology, including the Total Access database management tool and SAS portfolio analysis tools and adapt this technology to BB&T's product needs. Manage the commercial and retail card credit decisioning function of BankPro. 10. Manage staff and provide leadership and supervision to subordinates including development, counseling, coaching, salary administration, performance appraisals, setting performance expectations, etc. 11. Develop business plan and budgets for the merchant and bankcard risk departments. 12. Consult with the banking network, internal staff, and other departments to develop processes to insure that the risks associated with merchant and bankcard products are clearly understood and that all necessary steps are proactively taken to mitigate any potential exposure to the Bank. Develop and implement merchant risk training for the Merchant back office staff and sales force within the framework of the Bank's Gold Seal Client Service and Breakthrough Service Performance standards.
