PURPOSE -
Plan, organize and lead the safety and environmental operations of the Le Center facility to ensure established Quality standards, Cost requirements, and production schedules are maintained through the optimum use of manpower, materials, equipment and facilities.
Create and foster a culture of Continuous Improvement by utilizing the following:
Direct efforts to ensure product scheduling requirements are met continuously through proper use of management techniques and self directed work teams. Continuously provide opportunities for learning, growth, and accountability. Establish an environment of continuous improvement amongst all teams focused on measurement, initiative and cooperation. Through proper coaching, training, mentoring, and recognition this individual creates a focus for others in creating and maintaining a cost effective, safe, quality oriented line.
Takes full ownership of assigned area of responsibility including proactive long term planning, cost and process improvements and appropriate follow up.
Responsible for standards compliance in the Quality Risk Management Program, the Operational and environmental risk programs as well as SOX compliance where applicable.
Continuously seeks ways to improve all processes.
Actively participates in visual workplace and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Develop, administer and direct the Company's comprehensive risk management process at the plant location to ensure a proactive approach of continuous improvement in injury reduction, safety management, environmental compliance and plant security. Directs plant efforts to ensure the location is in compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. The incumbent works closely with plant management, medical personnel, insurance carriers and corporate resources in environmental and safety to manage the company processes.

SAFETY AND SECURITY:
- Direct the Key Element based safety process at the plant location. Supervise safety training, job safety analysis, and behavior modification as the principle means to affect a proactive loss prevention process.
- Avoid OSHA citations and associated fines by establishing processes of required work practices, training, accident investigation, hazard control, etc., and ongoing audit of these practices to assure compliance. Maintain contacts with regulatory agency representatives.
- Administer location Worker's Compensation insurance programs, manage claims, monitor management, and reserving practices, and assure that only legitimate compensable cases are paid.
- Facilitate employee safety, ergonomic and wellness committees and act as a resource for department safety meetings held by Line Coaches and team leaders.
- Periodically review and update, as needed, all required hazardous waste, business plans, emergency preparedness plans, and evacuations plans, etc. Administer a standardized record and reporting system for the documentation, classification, analysis, and reporting of injuries. KPI's will be visible and understood by everyone, including actions in place to address items not meeting expectations. All employees will be expected to assist in updating visual boards.
- Manage security function at the facility including overall plant security and internal security measures.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
- Support Engineering in managing environmental compliance issues assuring that all regulatory agencies' requirements are met.
- Review new operations, equipment, and materials for potential hazards to ensure they comply with regulatory requirements.
LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Plan and administer a plant safety budget that will maintain a safe place in which to work.
- Supervise the plant's Professional Health Care Coordinator and Safety Auditors.
- Work to improve morale through operation of a safe and health workplace.
- Actively participate in facility's lean manufacturing process through visual workplace initiatives and developing safety projects as well as Capital projects.
- Develop and motivate personnel through continuous training that will provide an effective production organization capable of implementing new products and maintaining existing business while improving our processes. Create a learning organization through evaluation of both positive and negative occurrences (reflection Hensei) and the philosophy of Continuous Improvement (Kaizen).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -
In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, the incumbent must have mobility to move around the factory and equipment. This may require climbing, lifting up to 20 lbs., working in the factory environment.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPENTENCIES-
- The incumbent must posses the ability to effectively administer the Company's safety process at the location.
- The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of Workers' Compensation, OSHA compliance, and the Company accident prevention process.
- The incumbent must have a four-year degree (a safety management degree is preferred) and three to five years safety management experience in an industrial environment or a combination of education and experience.
- The incumbent must actively and continuously be involved in attending workshops and seminars in the safety area.
- The incumbent must demonstrate outstanding communication and presentation skills.
