Overview:
Terex Utilities is a truck equipment final stage manufacturer of digger derricks, aerial devices and associated equipment for the utility industry, municipals, telecommunications, tree and electrical contractor markets.
Safety Manager will design, implement, and manage the Terex Utilities Safety Program and any other health programs, modified to the special needs of the plan. Ensures safe work conditions and practices that meet all applicable health and safety regulations and company policies. Recognizes, eliminates and controls occupational health hazards and diseases.
Responsibilities:
* Analyzes and evaluates current safety programs, policies, and practices to ensure they meet all local, state, and national regulatory requirements.
* Designs, implements, and maintains all safety and health maintenance programs and policies to minimize and eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards associated with work practices.
* Establishes safety monitoring and occupational health monitoring programs to ensure all activities meet established requirements. Establishes and maintains plant records for occupational and environmental health and safety including documentation on training and certifications.
* Performs periodic safety inspections and compliance audits.
* Establishes standards and methods of measuring environmental, health, and safety performance.
* Assesses training needs related to safety and occupational health and ensures all employees receive the necessary training to perform work in a safe and legal manner. Coordinates and/or administers training. Ensures that all team members are aware of their environmental, health, and safety responsibilities.
* Prepares reports including observations, analysis of contaminants, and recommendations for correction. Establishes and maintains effective accident and incident reporting system for all employees.
* Collects samples of dust, gases, vapors and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
* Investigates the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting and other conditions affecting the health, comfort, efficiency of Team Members.
* Conducts evaluations of exposure to noise, particles, gases, fumes etc. and recommends measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
* Investigates accidents and incidents to determine the cause and recommends changes to work practices or equipment to minimize or eliminate future safety risks.
* Works with outside safety organizations to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary contact responsible for assisting with safety and occupational health audits by these organizations.
* Works with an Occupational Physician or equivalent to establish and implement controls and remedial measures dealing with hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions and equipment.
* Prepares safety and compliance reports as required by management and outside organizations.
* Analyzes and provides technical comments on proposed regulatory actions.
* Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental, Health, Safety, Industrial Engineering or equivalent discipline desired, and three-to-five years of progressively responsible experience in plant safety. Experience or education in ergonomics is highly desirable. SKILLS
Requires professional specialization in industrial health and safety. Requires a thorough knowledge of regulations affecting environmental, health, and safety. Requires well-developed writing and verbal skills sufficient to design, deliver, and communicate training, rules, and procedures; to solve problems and resolve conflict; to investigate incidents; and prepare compliance reports. Requires skill in identifying training needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal with attention to detail and diplomacy. Strong presentation and training skills. Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite products. ABILITIES Requires the technical skills to perform the responsibilities of the position. Requires the ability to convert environmental, health and safety program goals into plant-specific action plans. Requires the ability to conduct audits and training. Requires the ability to respond quickly to incidents and take appropriate action to assure team members of their safety. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sedentary involves constant sitting. Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally, frequent lifting of 1-2 pounds. TRAVEL Must be able to travel on an occasional basis.
