In order to provide the right support , help maintain its leadership role and advance its technology competitive advantages, the Investments Business Technology Services group is growing and plans to include highly skilled and motivated members. After just completing a successful DotNet conversion of our key Investments Decision Support application, we now plan to increase our scope in the integration of Investments Risk Management Data and Compliance, Security Reference Data, and Market Data Services.

This position acts independently to translate business and technical requirements into well-engineered, tested, and deployed business application systems. This includes the analysis, design, development, testing, installation, and maintenance of information systems and acting as interface with customers and other developers to determine the most efficient and cost-effective approach to meet business requirements. Projects utilize .NET techology and will include new code construction, modifications to existing modules. Incumbents apply disciplined software development processes and utilize leading edge technologies to engineer and implement their automated solutions to business problems.




Responsibilities:



Major Opportunities and Decisions:



Works with "limited supervision"

May act as a lead for key components of a project

Provides guidance and technical coaching to more junior developers



Principal Accountabilities



* Perform Coding and Development- As needed, develops/modifies programs and/or customizes applications to meet Guardian business needs
* Design Software Solutions- Contributes to or may produce complete designs of business solutions, including assessing project resource requirements
* Perform System Testing- Participates in systems integration efforts to ensure new or modified systems operate effectively in the environment
* Understand Business Requirements- Analyzes and documents customer business requirements to ensure a thorough understanding of business needs
* Selection of Tools to improve productivity- Evaluates and select tools to build and support applications
* Perform cost benefit analysis- Participates in buy/build analysis and feasibility reviews as well as in the development of RFIs, RFPs, and vendor reviews
* Perform Functional Testing- Conducts tests including user acceptance tests



Qualifications:





Technical Expertise

Demonstrates significant competence and efficiency in multiple (including new) technology environments

Understands, incorporates, and influences the current and future application and technology architectures

Demonstrates advanced expertise and is able to find efficiencies based on experience (e.g., may have developed own code library).



Development Tool Skills: .Net



Candidate should have an in-depth understanding of the following:

.NET Concepts and Framework Classes

Composite UI Application Block (SmartClient Architecture, SCSF)

Windows Communication Framework:

Enterprise Library 3.1:

SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services:

Infragistics for Windows Forms a plus



Project Role

Develops project plans, identifies key milestones, helps less experienced team members manage day-to-day activities, reports on status and raises critical project issues to project manager

Works directly with project manager and/or senior customers in defining new application requirements, resolving project issues, and developing business strate





Education and Experience:



Education: BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent



Experience: Typically candidates in this role will possess 6+ years of relevant experience
