Description:

Provide a full range of front desk operations in a busy medical practice, as well as provide customer service to patients, families, physicians and staff, as needed. Serves to meet basic patient care/service needs and provide clerical functions for the practice. Functions as a member of the practice and promotes comfort and satisfaction using a customer driven process under the direct supervision of the Administrative Assistant/Multi-Section Department Manager. Assists with maintaining confidentiality of all medical records/work place information and a clear working environment.

Duties also include but are not limited to:
Responds to any request within limits of qualifications and/or refers request to appropriate staff member in a timely manner.
Organizes and prepares patient charts. Files charts and patient information in the medical record in a timely manner.
Makes calls to confirm appointments, verifies correct insurance & billing information received, collects referrals & co-payments, prepares fee slips.
Records appointments, cancellations and no-shows. Responsible for scheduling ancillary services and pre-certification. Schedules admissions and surgery while providing accurate insurance information and serving as a resource to patients.
Performs charge entry and charge reconciliation, providing correct and timely submission of patient billing.
Maintains appropriate levels of forms and office materials pertaining to patient services; orders and stocks supplies for exam rooms, when required.


Qualifications:

Skills & Abilities:
Customer service orientation and skills in problem solving. Effective communication and interpersonal/behavior skills. Ability to handle fast paced/stressful situations in a calm manner. Ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations, exercising good judgment. Demonstrates good organizational skills and attention to detain/accuracy. Knowledge of medical terminology. Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently. Clerical and record keeping skills. Ability to facilitate charge entry. Experience with ICD and CPT coding preferred.

Training & Education:
High school graduate or equivalent required. Some college credits preferred. Computer/data entry courses a plus.

Experience:
Minimum two(2) years experience with scheduling systems and front desk responsibilities in a high volume, fast-paced practice. Date entry and typing experience required.
