Long Description:
Engineering Services employs approximately 350 people and is a department under L-3 Communications Services Group. ESD is a defense contractor that provides a full range of communication systems support, engineering services, information technology services, teaching and training services, as well as intelligence support and analysis services.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provide instruction and assessment in Department Head, Prospective Executive OFficer, Prospective Commanding Officer Major Command, Advanced Shiphandling and Prospective Commanding Officer Shipboard Fundamentals NSS subject areas.
Provide classroom and laboratory instruction in NSS subject areas based on SWOS provided curriculum and in accordance with NSS TRD.
Operate NSS simulators and other computer based training systems in support of conducting NSS exercises.
Provide post exercise debriefing instruction to SWOS students.
Provide for the assessment of SWOS students, record keeping, and reporting in accordance with SWOS and NSS TRD requirements.
Maintain SWOS provided curriculum and make recommendations to SWOS when modifications to the curriculum are deemed necessary to enhance learning based on maritime education and training best practices or to meet updated SWOS, NSS TRD, Surface Navy, NAVDORM, or requirements from other competent authority.
Update and provide additional NSS curriculum as directed by SWOS.
Maintain highest levels of expertise in NSS subject areas, NSS TRD, NAVDORM, standard Navy conning commands, current maritime education and training best practices, U.S. Navy Surface Ship particulars and maneuvering characteristics for all ship classes, and other areas as appropriate.
Develop new and refine existing exercise scenarios based on SWOS requirements.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree. Former Navy Surface Ship CO w/ at least 10 years sea service OR USCG license as Master, any gross tons, Oceans; AND 2 years experience conducting training using full mission or part task bridge simulator; AND 2 years exp using CSC COVE bridge simulators to provide instruction and competency assessment in NSS subject areas; AND expert understanding of NSS subject areas, NSS TRD, current NAVDORM, standard Navy conning commands, maritime education and training best practices, Navy Surface Ship particulars and maneuvering characteristics for all ship classes.
Special Skills or Training:
Completed a USCG approved Train the Simulator Instuctor program AND Completed a USCG accepted train-the-trainer program based upon IMO Model Course 6.09 Training Course for Instructors. This position requires travel and Customer/client contact. The duties of this position require a SECRET clearance. Selected candidates are required either to already have a SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
